I wasn’t always careful with my words.
For a long time, they were my weapon.
My defense mechanism.
My way of controlling the situation when I felt small, scared, or unseen.
I learned early that if I could outwit someone, I could protect myself from being hurt.
Words became my armor sharp, quick, and precise.
And for a while, that worked.
Until one day I realized that the same mouth I used to defend myself was also wounding others.
The truth is, our words are never neutral.
They either build up or break down.
They heal or they harm.
And I had to learn the hard way that just because I could say something, didn’t mean I should.
The Power Beneath Every Word
The Bible says,
“The tongue has the power of life and death.” — Proverbs 18:21
That’s not metaphor — it’s reality.
Every word carries energy.
You can feel it when someone speaks kindness over you… and you can feel it when they don’t.
For years, I used words to protect myself.
Now, I let God’s Word protect me.
And there’s a big difference between the two.
When I spoke from fear, my world shrank.
When I started speaking God’s promises, my world began to open.
God’s Words Create — and So Do Ours
When God spoke, creation unfolded.
“Let there be light,” He said… and the darkness had no choice but to obey.
His voice brings life, and because we’re made in His image, our words have creative power too.
Every sentence you speak shapes something: your mood, your relationships, your faith, your future.
You can’t speak defeat and expect victory.
You can’t keep declaring, “I’ll never change,” and live transformed.
But when you start speaking His words words of truth, peace, and promise something shifts deep within you.
Transformation Starts in the Tongue
Change doesn’t always start with a miracle moment.
Sometimes it starts with a single sentence.
When I began aligning my speech with Scripture, it was awkward at first, like trying on clothes that didn’t quite fit.
But the more I said what God said, the more it became mine.
Instead of saying, “I’m broken,” I said, “I’m being made new.”
Instead of saying, “I’m not enough,” I said, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
Instead of saying, “I’ll never get through this,” I said, “With God, all things are possible.”
And you know what?
My heart began to believe what my mouth declared.
Practice the Shift
Here’s a simple challenge:
When you catch yourself speaking fear, lack, or doubt — pause.
Take a breath.
Ask, “What does God say about this?”
If you’re saying, “I can’t handle this,” replace it with:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” — Philippians 4:13
If you’re saying, “I feel lost,” replace it with:
“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105
If you’re saying, “I’ll never change,” replace it with:
“I am a new creation in Christ; the old has gone, the new is here.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17
Say it out loud.
Your ears need to hear your heart speak life.
The Back Porch Truth
Words are more than sound they’re spirit.
When you speak God’s truth over your life, you invite His Spirit to move within it.
You don’t need eloquence.
You just need honesty and faith.
Keep showing up with your imperfect words and let Him do the perfecting.
Because every time you speak His truth, you’re building a new world one grounded in peace, love, and grace.
The same mouth that once tore down can now testify.
The same wit that once wounded can now heal.
That’s what redemption looks like.
So, friend, remember this:
You’re either repeating the problem or releasing the promise.
Choose the promise.
Choose life.
And let your words reflect the One who spoke light into being and still speaks life into you today.
Reflection Prompt:
What words have you been using to describe yourself lately and do they line up with how God describes you?
Prayer:
Lord, forgive me for the careless words I’ve spoken — to others and to myself. Teach me to speak life. Help me replace my sharp tongue with Your gentle truth. Let every word that leaves my mouth honor You and bring peace to those who hear it. Amen.

Intuitive Business Coach
Hi, I’m Veronica Drake—but you can call me Vee.
I’m an Intuitive Mentor and founder of The School of Spiritual Arts, where I guide women (mostly over 50) to break free from the stories they’ve been handed and reconnect with who they truly are.
My work is spiritual, practical, and a little bit sassy. I’m not here to fix you—because you’re not broken. I’m here to help you remember your wisdom, trust your intuition, and live from your sacred truth.
When one woman owns her truth, it creates a ripple—and that’s how we begin to shift the world.
Fun facts? I’m obsessed with coffee, true crime, and I once worked on a real-life murder case. (Yep. Ask me about it sometime.)
