The ability to self-trust is a silent yet powerful force behind every decision, risk, and innovation. It’s a skill that’s especially impactful for entrepreneurs. Yet, many of us were raised not to trust our gut, so how do you begin to deprogram yourself?

Self-Trust is and the Practice of Detachment

My wholehearted embrace of detachment opens the floodgates to abundance. It frees me from the anxiety produced by the need to “be right” and the fear of “being wrong.” I can make confident decisions and if things don’t work out, that’s ok. I know it could be better for me not to get what I want because something better is waiting down the road.

The solution to feeling unsure is as simple as it is profound: commitment to a radical, creative, playful detachment. I know you can’t just decide to detach. You’ve spent a lifetime leaning on coping skills developed to shield you from past trauma. Your journey to self-trust may include confronting outdated beliefs that no longer serve you and that’s uncomfortable. One way we bridge the gap in my coaching is to explore the origins of the practice, what detachment really means, and how it leads to greater self-trust.

Understanding Detachment in a New Light

In the Buddhist tradition, detachment means letting go of desires, outcomes, and material possessions because attachment is a primary source of suffering. Clinging to anything—physical objects, relationships, or even ideas—leads to disappointment and pain because all things are impermanent and subject to change.

Detachment is not about being indifferent or uncaring to others or the world around us. Instead, it’s about cultivating a state of inner peace and freedom. When we understand the transient nature of all things, we can let go of our dependence on them for happiness and satisfaction. Now we can appreciate and enjoy life’s experiences without becoming ensnared by them. How we show up in the world is no longer driven by a desire for personal gain or fear of loss.

Detachment and Meditation: 2 Sides of the Same Coin

Detachment is linked to mindfulness and the practice of meditation. You observe your thoughts and feelings, allowing them to arise and dissipate. By embracing detachment, you’re more flexible, adaptable, and ready to pivot–essential qualities for thriving in today’s ever-changing business landscape. Am I also describing the qualities of someone who can self-trust? Yes, I am.

The Power of Detachment and Self-Awareness

Embracing detachment has unlocked true self-trust for me. By letting go of rigid expectations, I’ve learned to fully trust in myself and my journey. I won’t always “get it right,” but over time, I’ve learned I am resilient. My happiness and abundance aren’t dependent on achievements. They surface naturally from an internal wellspring of self-trust.

Self-Trust Transforms Challenges into Opportunities

Self-trust encourages us to see obstacles as opportunities for growth instead of barriers to success. When you lead from a place of self-trust, you’re more likely to take calculated risks, which are the creators of innovation and success. The belief that you can take big risks is a foundational skill for female entrepreneurs, who do it all under additional layers of societal and professional challenges.

The Ripple Effect of Self-Trust

The impact of self-trust goes beyond personal growth; it influences every aspect of your business. It fosters a culture of accountability, empowerment, and mutual respect. Trusting in yourself inspires your team to trust in their abilities, creating a resilient collective capable of overcoming any challenge.

When you invest in a program that develops your self-trust, you have the tools to overcome challenges and seize every opportunity. It’s a commitment to growth, learning, and authenticity. For entrepreneurs, self-trust is the foundation for successful businesses, realized dreams, and true abundance.
