Reframing rest, one afternoon at a time.
There was a time in my life when I’d slip under the covers in the middle of the afternoon and hope the world would leave me alone.
It wasn’t a cozy nap. It wasn’t a soul-soothing pause.
It was hiding.
It was depression.
It was the only way I knew how to cope when everything felt like too much.
I didn’t have the tools or the language back then.
All I knew was that I wanted out. Just for a little while.
And honestly? I thought there was something wrong with me.
The truth is, I wasn’t lazy. I was lost.
I had been carrying so much for so long that the only relief I knew was to shut it all down. To disappear into the dark, under a blanket, in the middle of the day.
I thought that meant I was broken.
But looking back now, I see it differently.
That version of me was doing the best she could.
She needed rest. She needed quiet. She needed permission to feel what she was feeling.
And over time—through a lot of healing, a lot of self-discovery, and a lot of learning how to listen to my body—I found a new kind of rest.
Back then, I was hiding.
Now, I’m honoring.
When I lie down in the afternoon today, it’s not because I’ve given up.
It’s because I’m checking in.
It’s because I’m listening.
It’s because I trust my body when it whispers, “Pause.”
This isn’t about giving in.
It’s about coming home.
I used to crash because I had no other tools.
Now I reset because I choose to.
That’s the shift.
Maybe you need this reminder too:
If you’ve ever felt guilty for needing a break
If you’ve ever judged yourself for lying down in the middle of the day
If you’ve ever thought rest made you weak or behind or lazy
Let me offer this:
You are not hiding.
You are healing.
You are learning to be with yourself in a new way.
A softer way.
A more loving way.
And every time you choose to pause—without guilt, without apology—you’re not falling behind.
You’re finding your way back to yourself.
Here’s a quick little daily exercise to help you stay in alignment
The Honest Yawn
Let yourself yawn. Fully. Loudly.
See what else wants to follow.
Tears? A sigh? A stretch?
Let it come. That’s your nervous system speaking.

Intuitive Business Coach
Hi, I’m Veronica Drake—but you can call me Vee.
I’m an Intuitive Mentor and founder of The School of Spiritual Arts, where I guide women (mostly over 50) to break free from the stories they’ve been handed and reconnect with who they truly are.
My work is spiritual, practical, and a little bit sassy. I’m not here to fix you—because you’re not broken. I’m here to help you remember your wisdom, trust your intuition, and live from your sacred truth.
When one woman owns her truth, it creates a ripple—and that’s how we begin to shift the world.
Fun facts? I’m obsessed with coffee, true crime, and I once worked on a real-life murder case. (Yep. Ask me about it sometime.)
